16 Feb 2018 Word of the Year = MINDSET
What’s your MINDSET?
I know it’s not January anymore (is it really over halfway to March ?), but I still wanted to take some time to share with you all my 2018 Word of the Year. I’ve been choosing a word of the year for the past few years, and each time I’ve found it to give me clarity and focus throughout the year. Last year I chose the word “boundaries” and I found it to be an amazing and necessary focus in my life.
I found that implementing boundaries brought balance and energy, which ended up being the perfect foundation for 2018’s word to build upon. And I do view my words of the year as cumulative, each adding to the next. With no further ado… my 2018 Word of the Year is MINDSET. Shocking, I know. If you follow me on social media or even just read this blog regularly, you already know that goals and mindset are two of my favorite things in the world. After establishing boundaries, I realized that it cleared space for a healthier mindset, and I knew I wanted to spend 2018 focusing on creating even more clarity around what I want my mindset to be.
Choosing a word for the year doesn’t mean that’s the only thing I focus on, just that it centers my focus as the day to day of life takes over. For this year particular, I chose MINDSET because it is the root of all things that I do. It helps me hit the goals that I set for myself, to complete daily activities, to focus when I get distracted, and to have direction in my life. When my mindset is off, nothing gets done. And when nothing gets done I find myself paralyzed, which just leads to a snowball effect. It’s so much more challenging to dig out of the avalanche (from the snowballing), than it is to just keep my mindset focused and to push through the challenges.
Within my focus on Mindset, I also set goals for exactly how I want to grow my mindset. First, I want to focus on strengthening it, so that when it starts to fade, and the very beginning of the paralyzing snowball begins to form, I can push back against the impulse of letting go and maintain my powerful mindset.
Second, I want to ensure that I am always coming from a place of positivity within my mindset. When every aspect of the day—even the ones that might seem to be more negative—can be viewed with a spin of positivity, it changes the way you think and feel, and allows for more gratitude, understanding, and growth. Finally, I want to spend some energy on integrating empathy into my mindset. I hope to be able to better relate to others by feeling what they might be feeling, allowing me to have a better understanding of where they are coming from. This will allow me to share compassion while still maintaining my boundaries from last year.
As they say…Mindset is everything. It’s powerful enough to completely change the course of your life, which is why I am choosing to focus on it throughout the entire year.
If you knew you had the power to strengthen and grow something that could literally impact your life in a positive way—why wouldn’t you? Do you choose a word of the year? If so, drop it in a comment below. I love to know what other people choose to focus on in their lives.
