03 Aug Featuring Mom 😍
You know how they say as you get older you start to “turn into” your parents… it seems like that’s often said in a negative light, but I’ll be honest. The parts of me that are most like my mom are the ones I love the most. In honor of her recent birthday I wanted to take a moment to shine some light on my amazing Mama and why I owe pretty much my whole career to her.
From the very beginning of wanting to go to hair school, my mom has always been my biggest cheerleader. She believed in my dreams from the start and would constantly tell me that I would be successful in my career. It was her vision for what was possible within my career that really became the foundation for everything I have done since. She helped me believe that a bigger vision existed than the one that I could see at the time.
Other than nourishing my dreams, my mom has always been the most selfless person I know. She has constantly cared for and given to my two sisters and I and really to everyone around her. It’s because of her dedication to caring for others that she became a pharmacist, and it’s been inspiring to see what she’s done within her career. Most often these days people are just looking for a filled script as quick as they can get it, but my mom has always placed a high level of integrity on her responsibility as a pharmacist. She takes great care to ensure that prescriptions are correct, even challenging the doctor when necessary to do everything she can to make sure the person gets the right prescription. She puts such heart and passion into her job, and it’s always been an example for me of what I want to do within my own career.
As I get older I find more and more similarities between us. My mom has always loved working out and to this day works out 4-5 times a week. She instilled in me an appreciation for taking care of your body and prioritizing your health. We also share a love of people. We both love talking to others and getting to know them. And of course, I also got my love for fashion from my mom. Granted, we have very different ides of fashion now, but growing up I always used to steal her clothes because she had the “cool” clothes, and we both have a love for the fashion industry.
I also love and appreciate that my mom’s life experiences have guided her in how she encourages me to live my life. It’s not always easy to watch our parents encounter difficulties, or to experience them together as we grow up, but the experiences we’ve shared together have shaped not just our relationship, but the way she wholeheartedly supports my path towards happiness. She is a constant source of positivity and unconditional love, and I truly believe that it’s allowed me to become the person I am today.
If it hadn’t been for her endorsing my dreams and being a constant cheerleader for my goals, I wouldn’t be in the space I am now. She instilled in me to be confident and chase my vision, and because of that I have been able to touch the lives of so many women throughout my career.
As a thank you to my mom for everything she has done and continues to do for me, I wanted to get her something really special for her birthday this year. I wanted it to be extravagant and a little over the top and something that she would absolutely love.
I think I succeeded because she almost passed out. Check out the video below to see her amazing reaction to her birthday present.
