It probably seems like Laguna Beach is becoming my second home, and in a way it feels like it is. I’m completely addicted to delving even deeper and learning even more about Natural Beaded Rows Extensions along with elevating my business. This particular trip focused solely on that second part… it was dedicated specifically to evaluating my business in detail alongside my coaches.

Hair Educational Adventure: Episode #2

The Funnelhackers Live convention

Mann, it was an intense four days of learning, growth, and inspiration. There were over 3,000 attendees to the event, which included everyone from entrepreneurs like myself with an established business, to entrepreneurs who were just starting out, to self-made millionaires who are dominating their fields. There were creatives, techies, business people, just about every type of person you could imagine made up the audience and speakers of this event.

I LOVE Education.

Especially Hair Education

I love to learn, I love to grow, I love to teach… pretty much everything about it. March has been all about education for myself and Garnish, and while I would typically say I can’t get enough of it… I have a confession. I’ve been feeling a bit of education overwhelm. You probably already know that at the beginning of March my team and I took a trip to NYC for the International Beauty Show.

Garnish Superlatives

I love my Garnish Framily!

Allow me a bit of a humble brag for a moment and let me tell you… my team is pretty fantastic. If you’ve been following the blog for a while you heard all about the Garnish “Framily” Friendsgiving at the beginning of November.

Friendsgiving kicked off our annual “grind time” and from then until the new year we worked our booties off. Because the holidays are so crazy, we hold our annual holiday dinner in January each year.

Pixies to Hair Extensions

And everything in between…

It’s no secret that I’m obsessed with hair extensions… I mean, hello, I own a Hair Extension Bar. But last year I had the opportunity to fall in love on a deeper level. After specializing in extensions for a decade without ever really being able to experience them for myself, Natural Beaded Rows Hair Extensions finally made it possible. Why did I wait so long? Allow me to take you along on a bit of my hair journey.

The first important note is that my hair is thick and curly and the longer it got the more unruly it became so for most of my life I’ve kept it in varying degrees of “short.” I always identified with my pixie cut, and it’s how I felt most myself. The last time I tried to grow out my hair (# years ago) I managed to grow my bangs just long enough that I could add a few tape-in extensions. I thought the longer extension bangs might be just what I needed to make it through the inevitably awkward pixie grow out phase. And thennnn… I shaved my head. What can I say? Short hair just worked for me.

So what finally changed my mind and set me on the determined path to grow out my hair? Children. More specifically, the hair loss I experienced after the birth of my two children. Hair loss affects many women after giving birth and it hit me hard. In order to make up for my thinning temples I began to grow out my hair. As soon as it was long enough I decided to try Halo Extensions. HaloCouture Hair Extensions are a removable extension method that add volume and can also be used for a bit of added length.

Because my hair is naturally thick I had to wear two halos, which allowed me to pull them up higher on the sides, filling in the thinning spaces. And thus the addiction was born. Over the course of a few months I went from being addicted to my halos and wearing them every single day to getting even longer halos until finally I went to my first Natural Beaded Rows Hair Extension Course.

The rest, as they say, is history… NBR was the first method I learned in all 10 years of extensions that had the perfect combination of features that fit my hair type and lifestyle. I could order the extensions curly, they could be tossed up in a top knot, and they could accommodate the thickness of my natural hair.

I was completely blown away by the variety of lengths and textures that NBR offered. I started off with three rows (supposedly the “limit” to how many rows you can have), and at first I didn’t really want a ton of length… just all of the volume. It only took a couple of weeks for me to add a forth row, and when it was time for me to get my new set… I was ready to add all of the length in addition to the volume. My hair has just gotten longer and longer since and it is now by far the longest it has ever been.

Having the opportunity to finally experience extensions for myself has only strengthened my passion for the solutions they can offer women with hair loss, thinning hair, and other hair concerns. I love being able to speak not just from years of extensive training, but also from personal experience.

If you’ve been thinking that extensions weren’t for you or couldn’t accommodate your hair type or lifestyle… we have got to talk. I would love to find out how i can help you fall back in love with your hair and look just like I did when I tried NBR.

What are you waiting for…. call me!

Welcome to the Hair Extension Confession Session

It’s about to get real

I’ve been wearing my NBR Extensions for about three months now and, well, I’ve had a few…snafus. If you’ve been into the studio you know I’m pretty much OBSESSED with my NBR extensions, and when they’re extra fluffy I love them even more. And as the person who helped write the maintenance sheet I should’ve been GOLDEN…#famouslastwords

Fashionable Faves

I’ve always loved the idea of being both chic and casual at the same time. As a hairstylist my fashion has always had to have a bit of functionality as well, and my style has evolved accordingly. Now, as a mom to two toddlers, I find myself loving more and more fashion that is about comfort and ease while still looking great and making me feel good wearing it.

What’s your MINDSET?

I know it’s not January anymore (is it really over halfway to March ?), but I still wanted to take some time to share with you all my 2018 Word of the Year. I’ve been choosing a word of the year for the past few years, and each time I’ve found it to give me clarity and focus throughout the year. Last year I chose the word “boundaries” and I found it to be an amazing and necessary focus in my life.

Meet My Valentine…

The Stats:
Name: Dustin aka Bae aka Byrd
Dating for: 5 years
Littles: Kingston (4) & Houston (3)
Career: Personal Stylist and Owner of Sharp & Timeless

How it all began…

A little over five years ago I was just living life… a work hard play hard hairstylist dedicated to improving my craft and travelling often. A friend told me I should meet this guy, and I wasn’t initially interested… Because I don’t care how attractive you are, no one gets between a girl and her career when she’s grinding as hard as I was. But still we became friends on social media, and, well, you know how it goes. I kept seeing his photo pop up and he seemed like such a nice guy so eventually we ended up going out on a date. Real talk… it was no hollywood firework moment.

Have you ever been on a date where it’s really nice, but like, almost too nice and you kind of wonder if there’s a real person beneath all the formal first dateness? Dustin opened doors and paid for dinner, but he was so smooth it left me wondering what kind of person was beneath that proper first impression. I wasn’t really sure it was going to be a thing, until we had a conversation one night that shifted everything.

We had been planning to go out, and Dustin said he really wanted to, but couldn’t because he needed to buy books for school… and it was just so humbling and endearing that I think I started to fall in love right then. I invited him to come over and chill, and it ended up being an amazing night. We talked and drank wine and watched Law and Order. (I like to joke that we fell in love over Law & Order). Underneath that layer of smooth was such a chill laid back personality that I found so refreshing. Pretty soon he was coming over almost every night just to spend time together.

First impression?
Everything about Dustin was different than anyone I had ever dated. He had this quiet, sexy, alluring humbleness that just vibed so well with my own personality. We had been dating for almost a year… when I found out I was pregnant with Kingston. We definitely had not planned to start a family—with Dustin finishing up school and me in the midst of opening my own business—but life happens that way, doesn’t it?

By chance, as a close friend of mine did my makeup for my maternity shoot, she told me she was in the process of trying to find someone to rent her house. Two weeks later Dustin and I moved in together. Before we could even settle into life with one new little, we found out I was pregnant with Houston.

Between a brand new business, a brand new baby, and being pregnant, life got to be a little bit (lotta bit) stressful, but it really made Dustin and I grow as a couple, come together and really begin to build our life together in a way that started to give me a stability I had never really known before.

Living a Life I Love

Five years, two littles, a degree and a thriving business later… and in just a couple of months we will be buying our first family home together. I can’t imagine life without Dustin or my littles. Life with two toddlers, and two creative businesses is certainly not easy, but it’s one I wouldn’t trade for the world.

We make it work by supporting one another’s goals, having a dedicated weekly date night, and bonding over some of our passions. Namely, Gucci shoes (aka our mutual love of fashion and trends). Even though falling in love and starting a family wasn’t even on my radar, the universe somehow knew even when I didn’t, that Dustin would be exactly what I needed. He and our family unknowingly brought a balance I didn’t know I was missing, and a sense of peace that I didn’t realize I was looking for. And now I wouldn’t want to go through life any other way.
